vJUG24 Session: Your Serverless Cheatsheet – Getting the Best out of the Serverless Cloud

Abstract:

In this session, we will review real-world serverless application scenarios, answer common questions, and share best practices around serverless application development, testing, and deployment. We will walk you through each topic by showing a demo and sharing sample code for solutions and optimization tips and tricks.

As an example of solutions for each of the use-cases discussed, we will use AWS Lambda, API Gateway, and/or the open source AWS SAM (Serverless Application Model) to dive into best practices learned by working on real-world Amazon API Gateway and AWS Lambda applications.

This is an intermediate/advanced session for attendees who are familiar with serverless applications, FaaS and building REST API services.Amazon API Gateway, Amazon DynamoDB, AWS Step Functions, and more will be covered.

Speaker: Tara Walker

Tara is a Technical Evangelist for Amazon Web Services, dedicating her time to help developers build apps, games, and technical solutions in the AWS cloud. Tara has most recently been working on evangelizing AWS cloud computing architectures and development for various technologies like Mobile, Gaming, IoT, AI, Serverless just to name a few.

Tara’s background is as a software engineer & developer who has worked on wide-ranging development platforms and systems while leveraging a myriad of development languages across her various technical and engineering roles. Over her 20+ year career, she has been employed by Microsoft, Turner Broadcasting/Time Warner, Georgia Pacific, and various other Fortune 500 companies.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Georgia State University, and currently working on her Master’s degree in Computer Science (MSCS) at Georgia Institute of Technology.
